Matthijs de Ligt TEAMtalk

Liverpool are looking to sign a £65m Ajax star to partner Virgil van Dijk, while Jurgen Klopp’s men have seen hopes of a deal for a summer striker target given a lift, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

LIVERPOOL CHASING £65M PARTNER FOR VAN DIJK

Liverpool are reportedly looking to sign £65million-rated defender Matthijs de Ligt this summer to partner Virgil van Dijk.

With Joe Gomez currently on the sidelines, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been on relying on Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip as back up options for the England international.

However, neither player has fully convinced that they could be a long-term option at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, leading to Calciomercato claiming that Klopp is targeting Van Dijk’s fellow Dutchman de Ligt.

The 19-year-old has emerged as one of the top young defensive stars in European football and has also been strongly linked with both Manchester United and Barcelona.

Van Dijk is de Ligt’s captain at international level and it is thought that Klopp has been impressed with what he has seen of the partnership with Holland – something that could continue its development at Anfield.
