Manchester United are ready to pay up to €30million to sign a new left-back, while Newcastle look set to beat West Ham to a Brugge striker, according to Saturday’s European press.
MAN UTD CLOSING IN ON NEW LEFT-BACK
Manchester United are reportedly willing to pay €25-30m to land a new left-back this summer.
Real Betis star Junior Firpo is the player in question, with the defender also linked with moves to Manchester City and Real Madrid.
A hamstring injury picked up in December meant a potential Betis exit in January was ruled out but after another injury blow, the 22-year-old returned for the final eight games of the season – eventually scoring three goals and providing five assists in 29 matches in all competitions.
According to AS, Betis are currently ‘dealing’ with United over the player’s transfer, which appears to suggest that talks have been initiated.
The report goes on to state that the Red Devils are ‘willing to pay’ €25-30m for the Spain Under-21 star.
United’s chase for a new left-back is somewhat surprising give Luke Shaw’s return to form this season, although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add more strength in depth to a squad that struggled last season.
