Euro Paper Talk: Napoli close on Arsenal target; £70m United raid on

Manchester United are close to landing a major target in a £70m deal, while Arsenal are in danger of suffering a transfer blow, according to Sunday’s European papers.

ALDERWEIRELD DEAL DRAWS CLOSER FOR MAN UTD

Manchester United are on the brink of succumbing to Tottenham’s demands over Toby Alderweireld, according to multiple reports.

ESPN say United had hoped to tie up a £55m deal for the defender, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy’s reluctance to sanction the deal has seen his asking price rise to £70m.

Those claims are now backed up by Belgian paper Het Laatste which suggests a €79.8million deal could be tied up in the coming days.

A clause in Alderweireld’s deal allows him to leave for just £25m next summer, but Mourinho’s determination to land the player and partner him up with Eric Bailly will see the move go ahead imminently.

Part of the outlay over Alderweireld could be offset by the potential sale of Victor Lindelof, who has been linked with a big-money move to Everton.
