Manchester United are ready to meet the asking price for an Ivorian attacker after learning he’ll be allowed to leave, while Tottenham and Juventus are planning the unlikeliest of swaps, according to Sunday’s European papers.
MAN UTD HANDED NICOLAS PEPE BOOST
Lille have informed clubs around Europe that star player Nicolas Pepe can leave this summer for €75m (£69m).
The 23-year-old attacker has enjoyed a stellar season, scoring 21 goals and providing 12 assists in 37 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
The Ivorian has been strongly linked with the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich and Arsenal – but reports in France claim it is Manchester United who have shown the greatest interest, with officials at Old Trafford said to be prepping an offer that matches Lille’s asking price.
Although refusing to name Pepe’s next club, Lille boss Christophe Galtier has confirmed the winger will be allowed to move on, telling Canal+: “Nicolas Pepe will leave. Life’s like that, football’s like that today.
“He is a player of the highest level who will have a big decision to make on the choice of his next club.”
“There will be a battle between the great European teams.
“I hope that he will take good amount of time to think about it, do his research, like he did when he came here and when he decided to stay here [last summer], find the right project.”
United are expected to bring in Pepe as a replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who will be allowed to move on this summer, though the Chilean’s exit could cost the Red Devils £12m.
