Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd set €50m fee as LaLiga side want £500k-a-week flop

Manchester United have told Atletico Madrid how much one of their forwards will cost, while Liverpool have joined the hunt for a Lyon striker, according to Thursday’s European papers.

Manchester United are ready to sell Alexis Sanchez to Atletico Madrid for a fee of £44million this summer, a report claims.

The Chilean has failed to live up to expectations since arriving at Old Trafford in a high-profile swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan in January 2018.

It’s no surprise to see United looking to offload him with his huge £425,000 a week – plus £75,000 appearance money – weighing heavy on the club.

Alexis could find salvation back in Italy with Inter Milan reportedly pondering a move for the former Arsenal and Barcelona star, while Serie A champions Juventus were also mentioned as potential suitors.

However, according to Don Balon, a return to Spain could be on the agenda for Sanchez who has been identified as the ideal replacement for Antoine Griezmann by Diego Simeone.

Griezmann revealed last month that he would be departing Atleti via a video, meaning Simeone has now been tasked with replacing his creativity.

The report goes on to state that the Argentine is a huge admirer of Sanchez who he will be familiar with from his spell in LaLiga at Atletico’s rivals Barcelona.

A transfer fee of £44million (€50m) should be enough to get a deal over the line, although there are no doubt question marks over whether his huge wages are within budget.

Manchester United are reported to have made a firm offer of €40m to Lyon for striker Moussa Dembele.

The France U21 striker moved from Celtic to Lyon last summer and has proved a big hit in Ligue 1 after banging in 20 goals in 45 appearances.

He has been linked as a potential target for Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer, amid claims he believes the powerful frontman would provide an upgrade on Romelu Lukaku.

And now Thursday’s edition of L’Equipe claims United have launched an initial offer of €40m to the Ligue 1 giants amid reports a number of rival clubs are also pondering an approach.

According to the French newspaper, both Barcelona and Liverpool are also hovering over Dembele; Liverpool arein the market for a new centre-forward with Daniel Sturridge allowed to leave at the end of his contract and Barca seeking more cover and competition for the ageing Luis Suarez next season.

While the paper acknowledges that United look most likely to sign the 22-year-old this summer, L’Equipe does raise the possibility of both their rival suitors pondering increased offers for a player whose stock is only likely to rise in the coming years.
