Manchester United have made a late attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, while an England forward could replace the Portuguese superstar at the Bernabeu, according to Friday’s European papers.

UNITED NOT GIVING UP RONALDO HOPE

Manchester United have not given up on their hopes of hijacking a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, according to various reports.

Reports have suggested the reigning Champions League holders are weighing up whether to sell 33-year-old Ronaldo to Juventus this summer.

Last night, O Jogo reported that Ronaldo has agreed to join Juventus after the Italian champions decided to pay the €100m release clause in his Real Madrid contract.

The Sun now state however that United’s vice-chairman Ed Woodward is evaluating what it would take to beat Juventus to the Portugal star.

Meanwhile, Spanish outlet Don Balon are claiming that Jose Mourinho sees signing Cristiano as the only way of competing with Manchester City next season.

As a result, Mourinho is apparently ready to offer midfielder Paul Pogba to Real in an attempt to get ahead of Juventus in the race for the 33-year-old.

According to the report, Real are not yet sure whether a swap deal is good business and may choose instead to go down the route of a sale.
