Fred TEAMtalk

Alexis Sanchez is not the only Manchester United player who could have a future in Italy, while an offer from Manchester City to a veteran full-back has been revealed – according to Sunday’s European papers.

Fiorentina are showing an interest in Manchester United midfield flop Fred, according to La Nazione.

The Brazilian struggled to live up to his price tag after securing a £52m move from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, managing just 13 starts in the Premier League.

Consequently, he has been linked with an early exit just one year into his five-year contract.

A reunion with former Shakhtar boss Paulo Fonseca at Roma was suggested, but the Italian side already have enough options in midfield, so one of their league rivals could look to take advantage.

According to La Nazione, Fiorentina believe Fred is a player who could bolster their midfield, seen as an essential area for them to improve after narrowly avoiding a shock relegation last season.

However, they would not be able to pay anywhere near the fee Man Utd forked out for him last summer, so may have some negotiating to do.

Besides, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Fred to improve upon his first season showings, thanks to the added stability around him in the spine of the team.

Despite those comments, Fred is yet to make an appearance for United this season, so Fiorentina will undoubtedly be monitoring the situation further ahead of the 2nd September European deadline – while Turkish side Galatasaray have also been tipped to make a loan offer.
