Euro Paper Talk: Purgatory for Reds star to end; West Ham eye £38m ace

Napoli are closing on a deal for an unwanted Liverpool star, while West Ham are making ambitious plans to snare a long-term £38m Jurgen Klopp target, according to Thursday’s European papers.

Napoli are ready to push through a move to sign Liverpool outcast Simon Mignolet before the end of the month.

The Serie A side are in the market for a new keeper, having seen Pepe Reina move to Milan over the summer and have been linked with a host of names. Guillermo Ochoa and David Ospina were thought to be on their radar, but reports in Italy now claim Mignolet has emerged as their No 1 target.

According to Gianluca Di Marzi, Liverpool have informed Napoli they won’t stand in the player’s way if they make a suitable bid and it’s suggested the player could move on a loan-to-buy deal before the month is out.

Mignolet cost Liverpool £9m when he signed in 2013 and it’s thought the Reds are seeking a similar fee. However, after Klopp settled on Loris Karius as his No 2 to expensive summer recruit Alisson Becker, the club are willing to let Mignolet leave on loan in order to get the former Sunderland man off the books.

The report adds that the Partenopei could even sign two keepers this summer after Alex Meret was sidelined with a broken arm, with talks over a similar loan-to-buy deal also taking place with Standard Liege for Ochoa.
