Euro Paper Talk: Real Madrid eye £175m Prem duo; Juventus ready €80m Spurs raid

Real Madrid are after two Premier League midfielders to replace an ageing star, while Juventus are serious about signing a Spurs defender, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

REAL MADRID TARGET TWO PREM STARS

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric is aware that the club plan to replace him with one of two Premier League stars, a report claims.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, the president of the LaLiga side – Florentino Perez – has plans to secure the long-term replacement for Modric this summer.

There is uncertainty surrounding the future of the Croatia international, who was heavily linked with a move to Inter Milan in the last transfer window.

The 33-year-old’s days at the Bernabeu could be numbered, as the report states that Perez wants either Manchester United star Paul Pogba or Spurs’ playmaker Christian Eriksen as his replacement.

The France star looked certain to be heading for the Old Trafford exit while Jose Mourinho remained in charge, but the Portuguese’s manager’s dismissal and Solskjaer’s subsequent appointment has sparked a vast improvement in Pogba’s output.

Still, despite his improved mood, rumours of Pogba’s desire to move to La Liga remain, though Man Utd may demand more than the £89m they paid to sign him from Juventus.

His brother Florentin recently claimed that a move to either Real or Barcelona would represent the next step in Paul’s development as a player.

Christian Eriksen Tottenham

Meanwhile, Eriksen was again a shining light as Tottenham produced a stirring second-half performance as Borussia Dortmund were resoundingly beaten at Wembley to leave Mauricio Pochettino’s side near to a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

However, speculation over Eriksen’s future continues to gather pace, with the former Ajax man having just 17 months left on his existing Tottenham contract. He has been linked with a €100m move to Real Madrid before, as well as PSG and Barcelona.

Real Betis midfielder Giovanni Lo Celso, on loan from PSG, is another possible replacement – but he would also cost between €70-80m.
