Euro Paper Talk: Real Madrid ready offensive for £100m Spurs star

Date published: Wednesday 8th August 2018 8:14

Real Madrid are eyeing a £100m Prem star to replace Luka Modric, while Man Utd have launched a late bid for a €60m full-back according to Wednesday’s European papers.

Real Madrid will target Tottenham star Christian Eriksen if they lose Luka Modric this summer, a report claims.

According to Spanish outlet Marca, midfielder Luka Modric has asked to leave the club with Italian giants Inter Milan heavily linked.

As a result, Los Blancos have apparently drawn up a three-man wishlist of potential replacements, and Eriksen tops the list..

Spurs however are extremely reluctant to sell their top players so late in the window, so Real boss Julen Lopetegui could pursue Bayer Munich’s Thiago or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic instead.

Sport claimed in May that the Tottenham midfielder was the back up plan for Barcelona if they failed to land Antoine Griezmann, with £100m being Eriksen’s valuation.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has lined up a surprise swoop for Jordi Alba, according to reports in the Spanish media.

With the United boss seeing efforts to strengthen his central defence frustrated, Don Balon claims Mourinho has turned his attention to finding a long-term solution to his left-back search – and Alba is the man he has settled on.

The Spanish outlet suggests Mourinho sees Alba as the man to give his side more width down the left and help United close the gap on champions Manchester City this season. A fee of €60million has been mooted.

Two notes of caution, however: the 29-year-old is pushing for a new contract at Barcelona and could be using United’s reported interest to force Barca’s hand; much the same as Samuel Umtiti did earlier this summer. Secondly, Barca, having already lost Lucas Digne this summer are unlikely to sanction the exit of another full-back.
