Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd, Chelsea face new rivals for Ajax star

Donny van de Beek

Roma are looking to sign a Manchester United and Chelsea midfield target, while Newcastle have been handed a potential January transfer boost and Real Madrid want Harry Kane again, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

ROMA LOOKING TO LAND MAN UTD, CHELSEA TARGET

Serie A giants Roma reportedly want to sign Ajax youngster Donny van de Beek, who was linked with Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham over the summer.

The 21-year-old central midfielder has made eight appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie this season, scoring once and providing an assists.

And Dutch outlet Voetbal International claims that Roma want to sign Van de Beek and are prepared to make a move in January to get their man.

Van de Beek’s name has been linked with a number of top clubs over the last six months, with United, Barcelona, Tottenham and Chelsea all keen but a strong working relationship between Roma and Ajax could see the giallorossi win the race for his signature.

Roma signed striker Justin Kluivert from the Dutch side this summer and were also close to landing Hakim Ziyech, who could move to Liverpool or Arsenal in the new year.

Van de Beek’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2022, which means that the 21-year-old is likely to fetch a commanding fee – something that would favour the wealthier Premier League clubs over Roma.

MAN UTD SCOUT DEMIRAL AGAIN

Merih Demiral TEAMtalk

Manchester United  reportedly remain keen on Sporting Lisbon defender Merih Demiral.

There appears to be growing interest in the 20-year-old centre-back, who moved on loan to Alanyaspor to gain first-team experience.

Turkish outlet Aksam reported that United had scouted the player last March, and now Turkish-Football report that “a source close to Alanyaspor” says United are among several clubs to watch the player this season.

The young centre-back has played five times in the Turkish Super Lig and scored once, while Alanyaspor have conceded just three goals in that time.

Turkish sports newspaper Fanatik reported in April 2017 that United had been joined by Besiktas and Galatasaray in keeping tabs on the youngster.

The Turkey U21 international has a €45m release clause and has four years left on his contract.
