Gelson Martins: United target

Tottenham look set to beat Liverpool to a €60m Portugal star, while Jurgen Klopp could also hit a roadblock in attempts to lure a PSG star, according to Monday’s European papers.

LIVERPOOL LOOK SET TO MISS OUT ON MAJOR TARGET

Liverpool hopes of signing Gelson Martins this summer appear to have suffered a serious blow, according to reports in Portugal.

The Portugal winger was chased by Jurgen Klopp last summer, but was instead convinced by Liverpool scouts to sign Mohamed Salah.

While the move for the Egyptian has paid rich dividends, Klopp’s interest in Martins has not waned and it’s reported in A Bola that the Reds could be ready to make a fresh move for the winger.

But Martins, who has a €60million buy-out in his Sporting Lisbon contract, is said to be against the idea of moving to Anfield – and it’s Salah who has been cited.

According to the claims, Martins believes the form of Salah would prevent him seeing too much first-team action at Anfield.

As a result, it’s suggested Tottenham are ahead of the Reds in the race to land Martins, with Spurs looking for a headline signing ahead of their return to their rebuilt White Hart Lane home.

CHELSEA LINK TO NABIL FEKIR

Chelsea are the latest club to show an interest in signing Lyon forward Nabil Fekir this summer, according to L’Equipe.

The £60million-rated 23-year-old has this weekend become Liverpool’s No.1 target after various reports from France suggested he was Anfield bound.

RMC Sport, L’Equipe and Canal+ all carried reports of  Gerard Houllier brokering a deal to take the attacking midfielder to Liverpool.

However, the player himself, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas and Jurge Klopp have all cooled the talk.

Now though Fekir apparently is wanted by Chelsea after 22 goals for the Ligue 1 side this season.
