Euro Paper Talk: Spurs line up Marseille star to replace Dembele

Tottenham are lining up a Marseille star to potentially replace Mousa Dembele, while Sevilla have told Arsenal they will only sell Steven N’Zonzi for the release clause in his contract, according to Tuesday’s European papers.

TOTTENHAM TURN TO MARSEILLE STAR TO REPLACE DEMBELE

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on the signing of Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson, who is being viewed as a potential replacement for Mousa Dembele.

A report in France Football claims that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been scouting the player for some months after the 23-year-old enjoyed a superb season with the Ligue 1 giants.

Sanson has only been at Marseille for 18 months but established himself as one of the top midfielders in French football last campaign as he led his side to the Europa League final.

The France U-21 star is being tipped to replace Spurs stalwart Dembele, who has yet to agree a new contract with the club and has been tipped to move on this summer.

The report goes on to state that Tottenham could also use a former Marseille star as part of any deal to bring Sanson to north London, with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou being linked with a return to France.

The winger has failed to establish himself in Pochettino’s first-team squad and was loaned out to Burnley in the second half of the season.

It is though that N’Koudou would jump at the chance of a return to Marseille, leaving Spurs seemingly in a strong position to try and land Sanson.

BAYER READY TO LET LENO LEAVE

Bayer Leverkusen have accepted that Liverpool, Arsenal and Napoli target Bernd Leno could leave this summer if his release clause is met.

Calciomercato claim Liverpool and  Atletico Madrid are tracking the 26-year-old, while Bild have reported that Arsenal have drawn Leno up on their list of targets.

Now sporting director, Rudy Voller has told Bild that Napoli made an offer for the goalkeeper back in 2017.

“Leno can leave but only on our conditions, we are in constant and open discussions with Bernd and his agent. He had a concrete offer from Napoli in 2017, but we didn’t have a replacement at the time, so he had to remain.

“In the end, he had a really good season. However, we figured that Bernd’s will to leave would come back and with the arrival of Hradecky, we have a high-class successor.”

Leno is reportedly at the top of Napoli’s wish list to replace Pepe Reina, who left to join AC Milan.

The German international has a €28m release clause in his contract.

COUTINHO KNOWS DESTINATION OF JASPER CILLESSEN

Former Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho expects his Barcelona teammate to move to the Premier League this summer – with Chelsea his likely destination.

The Holland goalkeeper has a €60m get-out clause in his Nou Camp deal and has been strongly linked with a move to his former club Liverpool, who are actively looking for a new No 1.

But with Liverpool still hopeful of a deal for Roma star Alisson, Chelsea look to have nipped in for Cillessen, with the Dutchman likely to replace the departing Thibaut Courtois in goals next season.

Courtois has told Chelsea he is unwilling to sign a new deal this summer and with just a year left on his Stamford Bridge deal, looks set to be sold on to the highest bidder.

Now Spanish outlet Don Balon claims Coutinho has let the cat out of the bag to teammate Lionel Messi that Cillessen will make the switch to London this summer to become the Blues’ No 1 and the long-term replacement for Courtois.
