Euro Paper Talk: Arsenal have last laugh as Edu orchestrates €80m striker capture to deny Newcastle; Man Utd gem’s next move under discussion
Dusan Vlahovic is being linked with a Juventus exit and Arsenal appear to be one of the striker’s main admirers again, while someone who has impressed on loan away from Man Utd is being lined up for his next move – all in Tuesday’s Euro transfer gossip.
ARSENAL KEEN ON VLAHOVIC FOR £69m
Arsenal are especially interested in signing Juventus striker, Dusan Vlahovic, for whom the Serie A side are asking for their €80m investment back.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, which also suggests Newcastle are interested in the Serbia international but reminds that Arsenal were one of his main admirers before he joined Juventus.
Indeed, back in January 2022, Arsenal put a lot of effort into adding Vlahovic to their squad. Ultimately, Fiorentina sold him to Juventus instead.
Vlahovic hasn’t been a disaster since, but it’s fair to say Juventus haven’t quite got their money’s worth yet. Now, with Champions League participation out of the equation next season, the 23-year-old could be considering his future.
He has already been linked with Man Utd recently, but according to TMW, his main suitors in the Premier League are Arsenal and Newcastle.
All eyes will be on Arsenal after their previous failure to beat Juventus to his signature. A year and a half later, they could have the last laugh by prising him away from the Old Lady.
To sign him, though, they would have to meet Juventus’ valuation of Vlahovic. Ideally, the Turin outfit want to recoup the €80m they paid for him.
In other words, a deal could be possible for Arsenal to sign Vlahovic for around £69m. If he can get back to his best, he might be an upgrade on Gabriel Jesus.
The Brazil international initially made a good impression after joining from Manchester City, but soon lost his momentum prior to some injury issues as well.
Arsenal addressing attack as Juventus find Vlahovic replacement
Arsenal are currently assessing the balance of their frontline for next season. Eddie Nketiah is the main deputy to Jesus, while Folarin Balogun has impressed out on loan with Reims, but would only return with guarantees of regular starts.
If Arsenal aren’t entirely convinced he is ready for that step, though, they might have more faith in a big signing like Vlahovic.
Per TMW, Bayern Munich are out of the race to sign him for the kind of fee that Juventus are holding out for. Arsenal or Newcastle, though, could be able to pay up.
Both of them are back in the Champions League for next season, so have exciting projects to join. Newcastle already spent big on a striker last summer too, when they added Alexander Isak to their squad.
Therefore, Arsenal may still have the edge for Vlahovic, although only time will tell if either of them firm up a bid for him.
Meanwhile, Juventus have – according to the report – identified Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund as an ideal replacement for their €80m man.
Hojlund, who has also been linked with similar Premier League clubs, could cost a cheaper transfer fee of around €50m. Hence, Juventus could modify their attack for a negative net spend.
Arsenal, though, would have to match their transfer record to play their part in the chain of events.
