Euro Paper Talk: Damning Daniel Levy verdict on Christian Eriksen transfer

Christian Eriksen TEAMtalk

Christian Eriksen’s chances of a January return to Tottenham look to have been cruelly ended, while Mauricio Pochettino has identified his No 1 transfer priority were he to take charge at Manchester United, according to Monday’s Euro Paper Talk.

Christian Eriksen’s misery looks set to extend after a damning report claimed a possible return to Tottenham have been ruled out.

Eriksen departed north London last January as Spurs’ efforts to tie him to a new deal failed. With time ticking away on his contract, Eriksen was allowed to join Inter for a fee of €20m.

The move to Serie A, however, has not worked out as planned. Eriksen has struggled to adapt to the tactical demands of Antonio Conte. The Italian’s favoured 3-4-3 formation even looks to have stifled Eriksen’s game.

With not one goal or assist this season, Inter are now willing to let the player leave in January.

Reports last week claimed talks over a deal to bring him back to Tottenham were underway. It was claimed Spurs could offer two players to Inter to help broker the deal.

However, Italian outlet FCInterNews are adamant all avenues to Tottenham have been firmly shut down.

They state Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has “no desire” to bring the Dane back to Tottenham due to the manner of his exit. Levy, it’s claimed, was left angered by Eriksen’s efforts to leave on a free, though ultimately they managed to avoid that scenario.

Furthermore, they claim Jose Mourinho also finds the player “less competitive for his way of understanding football”. That seems a tad harsh on a player who did many great things for Spurs during his time there. He’s hardly a man you’d label ‘tactically inept’ but that’s effectively what the article is saying.

Either way, with Gareth Bale added to their forward line, Spurs have very much moved on from Eriksen.

In addition, the article also suggests a little ill-feeling between Spurs and Inter over Milan Skriniar. Tottenham tried to sign the Slovakian defender over the summer; their efforts ultimately failing.

The article claims Spurs offered €30m-€35m for Skriniar, with Inter refusing to budge from their €60m asking price.
