Euro Paper Talk: Successor lined up as Solskjaer reaches boiling point with Man Utd misfit

Frenkie De Jong, Ousmane Dembele

Manchester United have a successor lined up for a player who has frustrated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while Everton want a Spanish attacker – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.

SOLSKJAER READY TO AXE MARTIAL

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to wield the axe on striker Anthony Martial due to his inconsistent form, according to a report.

The Frenchman, who has been at United for five years, has struggled to maintain his top level throughout his tenure. Indeed, while he scored 23 goals last season, he has not yet shown signs of posting a similar tally this season.

The 24-year-old has scored twice this term but his most memorable moment was arguably his red card against Tottenham.

Solskjaer has put on record his belief in Martial and the striker’s improvement. According to Don Balon, though, it is a different story behind the scenes.

The Spanish source claims that the Norwegian coach has a ‘great doubt’ over the France international’s form. Solskjaer cannot understand why Martial plays a brilliant role for his country but has struggled to replicate that for his club.

This issue reportedly ‘drives Solskjaer off his feet’ and the manager is ready to see him leave. But before letting him go, Solskjaer will give the striker a chance to ‘reverse the bad dynamics’ he is displaying.

As for who would replace Martial, Don Balon adds that Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele will be his successor.

United held talks about a loan deal for the Frenchman in the recent transfer window as they looked to sign a new winger.

But after opting not to bring him in, they instead went for free agent Edinson Cavani to beef up their attack.
