Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool plot move for Schalke sensation with bargain £7m exit clause

Liverpool are ready to make a move for a Schalke defensive sensation, while Tottenham are plotting a double raid on LaLiga  – all in Monday’s Euro Paper Talk.

LIVERPOOL READY TO MOVE FOR SCHALKE DEFENSIVE ACE

Liverpool are reportedly lining up a move for Schalke centre-back Malick Thiaw this summer.

The 18-year-old made his senior debut for the Bundesliga outfit earlier this month and has already been described as the ‘next Joel Matip’ by the German media.

According to the latest reports, the Reds have been extensively scouting Thiaw and are now planning to make their move for the youngster.

The report claims that there is a £7million release clause in Thiaw’s current contract with Schalke, which expires next year, but that the German side are keen for the defender to sign a new deal to try and raise that figure.

However, negotiations between Thiaw and Schalke are currently on hold, which gives Liverpool the chance to swoop.

The Merseysiders are expected to be in the market for a new centre-back this summer, with Dejan Lovren expected to move on after becoming frustrated with a lack of first-team chances under Klopp.

And a move for a developmental player to work under the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Matip could be a good route for the Reds to follow as they keep one eye on the future.
