Liverpool will ramp up their pursuit of Thiago Alcantara this week with a bid, while Barcelona want a Man City star to replace Luis Suarez – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
REDS DECIDE TO RAMP UP THIAGO HUNT
Liverpool have decided to step up their pursuit of Thiago Alcantara and will begin formal negotiations over his move to Anfield, according to a report.
Previous suggestions were that Liverpool are unwilling to match Bayern Munich’s asking price for the Spaniard. Indeed, the German champions reportedly want around £27million.
As such, Liverpool were holding off on a move, given they are scaling back their spending due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Aside from the transfer fee, Thiago has allegedly wanted a move to Liverpool for some time and The Athletic (via UOL) claims the two parties have agreed personal terms.
However, in his latest update, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has said he has received no word from Anfield chiefs about a move.
Now, though, SportBILD (via Sport Witness) claims the Reds will ramp up their efforts to agree a fee with Bayern over the midfielder’s exit, with a first bid likely to arrive this week.
What’s more, Liverpool and Thiago also scheduling further formal negotiations.
Thiago is likely to leave Bayern this summer, with Rummenigge confirming as much in his latest comments.
