Liverpool are closing in on the addition of an exciting centre-back to their ranks, while an Arsenal star is keen to sign for Atletico Madrid – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
Reds beating Madrid to Schalke defender
Liverpool are close to beating Real Madrid to the signing of Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, according to a report.
The Reds have filled two important gaps in their side this transfer window; Kostas Tsimikas has arrived as left-back cover, with Diogo Jota providing support for their famed front three.
Although, Jurgen Kopp remains a man light in defence after selling Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg.
Fabinho filled in for the injured Joel Matip and Joe Gomez against Chelsea on Sunday, putting in a fantastic performance to keep Timo Werner at bay.
According to Don Balon, however, Liverpool do not feel “entirely satisfied” with their situation.
As such, Klopp has reportedly put Kabak “on the table” to his seniors and the 20-year-old is “very popular” at Anfield.
What’s more, Liverpool have reportedly made contact with the player. The Reds feel confident that they can win the race for Kabak, with Madrid also keen.
Los Blancos president Florentino Perez reportedly wants to sign the Turkey international. However, it is Liverpool who currently lead the race.
Don Balon adds that Kabak will prove a “bargain” for whoever signs him. Indeed, he is reportedly available for less than €30million (£27.4million).
