Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool show strongest interest in £52m Prem enforcer as Klopp moves for two signings; Aston Villa ask for Man Utd, Tottenham target

Liverpool are ready to make concrete moves towards two midfield targets even though a concern has arisen about one, while Aston Villa are attempting to derail a Man Utd move – all according to Monday’s Euro transfer gossip.

PALHINHA AND LAVIA ON LIVERPOOL RADAR

Liverpool are showing the most interest in €60m-rated Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, even if their main target remains Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Fulham now expect to sell Palhinha this summer after his impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Liverpool have established themselves as one of the frontrunners to sign Palhinha. Per Tavolieri, they are ‘the most keen club’ in the transfer battle.

In order to prise him away from Fulham, they would have to meet the asking price in the region of £52m. If Palhinha can replicate his form from last season, it may be a price worth paying.

Liverpool have been negotiating the potential departures of Fabinho to Al Ittihad and Jordan Henderson to Al Ettifaq. In turn, they need a new enforcer at the base of their midfield.

Palhinha made more tackles than any other player in the 2022-23 Premier League. Therefore, he would be a suitable fit.

The main question mark about Palhinha at present is the fact he suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder in Fulham’s friendly against Brentford on Sunday.

Fulham manager Marco Silva has admitted it could be “serious” but is hoping he won’t be ruled out for too long. It remains to be seen what impact it could have on Liverpool’s pursuit.

According to Tavolieri, Liverpool have been planning to make progress with their pursuit in the coming week. The same goes for Beglium international Lavia, who La Derniere Heure claims is the main midfield target Jurgen Klopp is considering.

There is a belief that Lavia is a priority target for Liverpool after suffering relegation with Southampton. Interestingly, the report claims he also has a €60m price tag – which is the same value Tavolieri relayed for Palhinha.

Lavia, a former Manchester City prospect, is waiting to hear from his agent if the Liverpool route develops into something concrete.
