Luis Suarez is being eyed for a spectacular return to Liverpool, while Manchester United have set their asking price for an inconsistent forward and one of Europe’s most highly-rated defenders has seen his market value decrease amid Premier League links – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
LIVERPOOL LINKED WITH SUAREZ RETURN
Liverpool are considering a sensational move to bring Luis Suarez back to Anfield, according to reports in Spain.
Suarez previously enjoyed a successful three-and-a-half year stint on Merseyside. He scored 82 goals in 133 games for Liverpool before leaving for Barcelona in 2014.
Since his departure, Liverpool have not really had an out-and-out centre-forward of a similar level. Roberto Firmino has been the focal point of Liverpool’s front three, but his role is closer to being a false nine than a natural striker like Suarez.
Such has been Liverpool’s success with the front three of Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, though, that it has rarely been a problem.
But this season, the situation has changed. The goals have dried up for Firmino, and Mane and Salah continue to be linked with moves away.
Diogo Jota has shown that the front three is not unbreakable, and Liverpool could be considering their options for the future.
According to Fichajes.net, last season’s Premier League champions want an attacking signing in the summer. But rather than someone to dislodge a member of their front three, they would rather seek a reliable, experienced option to keep the others on their toes.
But that player could still be an exciting, high-profile signing. The Spanish outlet claims that Liverpool could try to lure Suarez back.
Suarez tipped to restore ‘dominance’
The Uruguay international was discarded by Barcelona in the summer, but has proven his former employers wrong since joining Atletico Madrid. He has scored 19 goals in 31 games since moving to the Spanish capital.
The 34-year-old is only under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano for one more season. Hence, there could be an opportunity for Liverpool to get him back in the summer.
Suarez is seen as someone who could add “dominance” inside the penalty area, the report states. Given that his previous record with the club was “more than impressive”, Jurgen Klopp would consider bringing him in.
While it seems this is an option that wouldn’t require the sale of one member of the current front three, the report does confess that Mohamed Salah departing would simplify things.
