Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd swoop as major attacker rumblings emerge despite agent’s claim

Manchester United have registered interest in a top-class striker whose situation is not as it seems, while a Tottenham star is in demand – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.

Manchester United have registered their interest in signing Robert Lewandowski amid contrasting claims over his current situation at Bayern Munich.

The 33-year-old emerged as a top striker in Europe under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. However, he has gone to another level – and cemented his status – at Bayern. Nevertheless, he is approaching a crossroads in his career.

Lewandowski’s contract runs out at the end of next season. However, there have been no concrete signs as yet that the Poland international will sign a new deal.

In fact, the player’s agent, Pini Zahavi recently claimed that player and club have still had “no contact”.

Sky Germany relays the agent’s claim and adds that Lewandowski himself has also publicly stated that he has not held any discussions with club chiefs.

However, the report claims that, behind the scenes, the picture is completely different. Indeed, Lewandowski wants clarity over his future.

He also ‘doesn’t like’ the fact that Bayern fancy their chances of signing Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Would Lewandowski leave Bayern for Manchester United?

There is also the issue of the ‘tense’ relationship between Zahavi and Bayern. Bayern still have an ill feeling towards the transfer fixer after his rampant – and in the end successful – attempts to take David Alaba to Real Madrid.

Zahavi, who has connections at Europe’s biggest clubs, therefore knows that he could source Lewandowski a bumper move across the continent.

And Man Utd have therefore been in touch with the agent as they look to capitalise on the situation. Lewandowski has continued his impressive goalscoring form this season, having netted 43 goals in 36 games.
