One Manchester United midfield target’s feelings over a transfer have been revealed, while Liverpool have been confirmed as a suitor for an in-demand star undergoing a rise to prominence – all in Wednesday’s Euro transfer gossip.
MAN UTD MIDFIELD TARGET EXCITED BY LINKS
Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka says it is “exciting” to be linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid.
Goretzka has been with Bayern since 2018 and recently signed a contract extension until 2026. He is still playing regularly but was linked with an exit over the summer.
Man Utd were tipped to take him from Bayern’s clutches as they seek to revamp their midfield. That position remains a priority for the Red Devils in the transfer market.
Even without all the speculation about Paul Pogba’s future, United require more quality in defensive midfield. Fred and Scott McTominay are useful players, but could be upgraded upon.
Now, Goretzka has been speaking about his links with Man Utd – who would find it much tougher to sign him now if they wanted to due to his longer contract.
He was also tipped to be a target for Real Madrid, and admitted he gave a lot of thought to his transfer options this summer.
Goretzka said to Bild (via Sport Witness): “It’s an exciting thing when other clubs recognise what you’ve done.
“I take a lot of time in my decisions when I need to make them, I weigh up everything.
“I talked a lot about it with Joshua (Kimmich). We actually had a vision from the start: Our work at Bayern is not finished yet, big things are still waiting for us. Hence the aim was to reach an agreement.”
The 26-year-old has since started all six of Bayern’s Bundesliga games so far this season.
There is still time for him to secure a transfer in future but it does not seem to be something on his mind immediately, even if he was happy to hear of interest.
