Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd most stable option for €65m striker as Tottenham, Chelsea join race; Liverpool spy ex-Barcelona star

Lille striker Jonathan David

Manchester United might have firmer plans to sign a striker who has emerged onto the radar of Tottenham and Chelsea as well, while Liverpool are among the contenders for a former Barcelona defender – all in Friday’s Euro Paper Talk.

JONATHAN DAVID ATTRACTS PREMIER LEAGUE TRIO

Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea are candidates to sign Lille striker Jonathan David for €65m, according to L’Equipe.

David has already matched his goalscoring tally from the most prolific season of his blossoming career so far. This season, he has found the net 23 times from 34 appearances for Lille.

However, there is now a growing expectation that he will leave the Ligue 1 side this summer. Although under contract until 2025, it might be an ideal time for David to take the next step.

According to L’Equipe, he has become of interest to three clubs in the Premier League. Man Utd, Tottenham and Chelsea are all intrigued by the idea of signing him.

Of course, Man Utd are in the market for a new centre-forward this summer. They released Cristiano Ronaldo in November and filled the void with Wout Weghorst in January.

But Weghorst is only on loan from Burnley and will not be at Old Trafford next season. Therefore, the search is on for a long-term frontman to lead the line for Erik ten Hag’s side.

If David is to be that man, a bid in the region of €65m (circa £57m) will have to be made.

Tottenham, Chelsea turn to Jonathan David

Other contenders for his signature include Tottenham and Chelsea. The former might need a replacement if Harry Kane is prised away, whereas the latter still lack a reliable centre-forward.

However, the report indicates that Man Utd have more stability than either of the London clubs, who are both searching for a new manager for next season. With that in mind, the Red Devils might be able to make more concrete plans.

Likewise, Paris Saint-Germain might be able to offer David another opportunity in Ligue 1, but they might replace Christophe Galtier in the dugout, which means their plans are uncertain.

Alongside Man Utd, another more stable suitor for the Canada international would be Bayern Munich. They still have a Robert Lewandowski-shaped void in their attack.

Thus, there could be plenty of options for David to choose from in the coming months. First and foremost, it will depend on who comes forward with an offer.

Man Utd have been linked with plenty of potential new strikers, but David has been in the background of their thoughts. Perhaps the threat of Chelsea or Tottenham taking him instead could prompt them to look more closely at him.

David has scored a total of 55 goals in his 130 games for Lille to date. His first taste of Premier League football could be on the horizon, but only time will tell where he specifically ends up.
