Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd told €60m could snare them Milan full back as Ten Hag plots defensive change; Man City make progress in £85m deal for world-beating centre-back
Manchester United are ready to make a move for a Serie A left-back as Erik ten Hag plots a permanent change to his back four, while Manchester City are edging ever closer to signing arguably the best central defender in European football – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
UNITED CONSIDERING MOVE FOR MILAN FULL-BACK
Manchester United are reportedly preparing to make a move for an AC Milan full-back, as Erik ten Hag plots a complete position change for one Old Trafford star.
La Gazzetta dello Sport states that United are interested in bringing highly-rated left-back Theo Hernandez to the Premier League this summer.
The 25-year-old France international has continued to be one of the best players in Stefano Pioli’s squad, scoring four goals and providing five assists in 43 appearances across Serie A and the Champions League last term.
However, a key factor in his decision to join Milan in 2019 was director Paolo Maldini, who was dismissed by the club earlier this month. In turn, that has led to growing rumours that Hernandez could be one of the players who follows Maldini through the San Siro exit door.
La Gazzetta dello Sport adds, though, that United will have to pay at least €60million to tempt Milan into a sale of a player who has previously been linked with Arsenal.
Shaw set for permanent centre-back switch
It appears that Ten Hag wants Hernandez on board as he looks to move Luke Shaw to centre-back full time.
The England man impressed in that role towards the end of last season, often keeping the more established Harry Maguire out of the side.
But, if he makes that decision, then Tyrell Malacia will need more competition at left-back.
United could face a battle to land Hernandez though, with Corriere della Sera suggesting that Manchester City and some of the top clubs in Spain also want the defender.
