MOURINHO DENIED AFTER MOVE FOR MOUSSA DEMBELE
Tottenham are reported to have failed after making a under-the-radar play to sign Moussa Dembele.
Spurs have been looking for additional firepower in their ranks as cover and competition for Harry Kane. As such, they brokered a deal to bring in Carlos Vinicius from Benfica.
However, the Brazilian striker might not have been Tottenham’s No 1 choice. According to Get French Football, Spurs held talks with representatives of Lyon striker Dembele over a switch.
Under the proposal, Spurs wanted to sign the former Celtic striker on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
Furthermore, Dembele is said to have been keen to make the move back to the Premier League. He previously appeared for Fulham.
While Spurs and Mourinho had an agreement with the striker and his agent Pini Zahavi, convincing Lyon was another matter.
In fact, the move was blocked by Lyon chief Jean-Michel Aulas. Furthermore, OL manager Rudi Garcia then chose not to start Dembele in Sunday night’s Olympico vs Marseille.
A source close to Tottenham contacted by Get French Football News spoke of the “frustration” that the deal could not be secured.
Dembele is now expected to stay ay Lyon.
