Euro Paper Talk: Mourinho effect pushes Portugal star closer to Tottenham

Tottenham’s advantage in the race to sign a Portugal international is revealed, while Liverpool are ahead of rival clubs in the hunt for a Brazil youngster – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.

TOTTENHAM ADVANTAGE IN CARVALHO RACE

Jose Mourinho’s “persuasiveness” is edging Real Betis midfielder William Carvalho closer to a move to Tottenham, according to reports.

Carvalho progressed through the Sporting Lisbon youth ranks and became an important figure for the club before making a move to LaLiga with Real Betis.

Having made 43 appearances in his debut season for Betis, however, a muscle injury has kept him sidelined this term and he has been linked with a move elsewhere in recent weeks.

Leicester have previously been credited with interest but, according to Record (via Sport Witness), Tottenham are also keen.

The newspaper says that Portuguese boss Mourinho is at the forefront of the thinking of compatriot Carvalho, who has 59 caps for his country.

It is claimed that Carvalho is interested by the project being put together by Mourinho, who rarely finishes a season without a trophy.

Wolves could also have an advantage in the battle to sign the 28-year-old, given their unique connection with signing Portuguese players.
