Euro Paper Talk: Unwanted PSG forward emerges as fresh Man Utd target; Leeds Utd join race to sign Benfica hotshot

Manchester United are ready to switch their striker focus to an unwanted PSG star who scored just four goals last season, while Friday’s Euro Paper Talk claims that Leeds United in the hunt to sign a Benfica attacker.

MAN UTD SWITCH STRIKER FOCUS TO PSG STAR

Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain outcast Mauro Icardi in a late summer window deal.

Red Devils boss is looking to add to his attacking options as uncertainty continues over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.

The Portuguese legend’s desire to leave prompted an ill-fated bid for former West Ham man Marko Arnautovic. That offer was rebuffed straight away by Bologna, while United have since ended further talks after a fan backlash.

RB Salzburg star Benjamin Sesko was another player on Ten Hag’s radar but he is now heading to RB Leipzig next summer.

Friday’s Transfer Gossip also suggested a move for Roma’s Tammy Abraham is a possibility. However, South American outlet TyC Sports now reports that the Red Devils are chasing Icardi.

The 29-year-old, who joined PSG from Inter Milan for £45m in the summer of 2020, is now up for sale.

New PSG boss Christophe Galtier said he wanted to trim numbers in his squad but still wants to add another forward, hence the surprise links to United striker Marcus Rashford.

However, the England striker is ‘not for sale’ and is more than happy at Old Trafford under a new manager.

The Argentine has been made readily available by new PSG boss Christophe Galtier.

That will not stop United’s bid for Icardi though, with a loan and option to buy on the cards.

The Red Devils will face competition for the experienced forward though in the shape of Galatasaray. Icardi’s agent and wife Wanda Nara is said to have already met with Galatasaray on three occasions.

A return to Italy with Roma and Juventus has also been mooted for the striker, who scored just four goals in 24 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG last term.
