Euro Paper Talk: Liverpool man a top priority in stunning Barcelona resurgence

Ronald Koeman Barcelona

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman wants to bring a top Liverpool star to Camp Nou, while Juventus float the idea of an attacking swap deal with Arsenal – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.

New Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman feels a reunification with fellow Dutchman Georginio Wijnaldum is among his top priorities this summer, according to a report.

Former Netherlands boss Koeman arrives at Camp Nou with Barca in a crisis; following a poor showing in LaLiga, Bayern Munich dumped them out of the Champions League.

What’s more, the squad is in need of a serious rebuild, with one report claiming only five first-team stars are safe from the axe.

As for who Koeman could recruit, AD claims Liverpool midfielder and his compatriot Wijnaldum is “very high” on the manager’s wish list.

Koeman knows exactly the qualities Wijnaldum possesses, having coached him while in charge of the Netherlands.

For Liverpool, meanwhile, the 29-year-old has proved an unmissable presence in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. Indeed, as well as his overall influence, he has also scored three goals in Champions League semi-finals.

However, his contract runs out next summer and Liverpool are yet to agree an extension. As such, Dutch source AD claims that the player’s situation makes the deal affordable.

Although, Koeman will need to offload several of his own before making his move. Barca have the highest wage bill in Europe, with the likes of Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti reportedly up for sale.

What’s more, AD adds that Wijnaldum would complete a solid “core” of talent, with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Clement Lenglet, Frenkie De Jong and Lionel Messi alongside him.
