Dixie Dean statue TEAMtalk

Everton are assisting Merseyside Police with enquiries after a flare ignited on the Dixie Dean statue outside Goodison Park.

Toffees fans were outraged after footage appeared on social media. Flowers and tributes to loved ones surround the bottom of the statue.

A statement from the club said: “We encourage anyone with information relating to this disappointing and disrespectful incident to contact Merseyside Police.

“Following inspection – and cleaning of the memorial and the site – we can thankfully confirm no permanent damage has been done to the statue of our greatest-ever goalscorer – or the floral tributes laid at the foot of the statue.”

Dean is Everton’s greatest-ever goalscorer, scoring 60 goals in a single season in 1927/28 and 383 in total.

Ancelotti says Everton must change mentality

Carlo Ancelottiadmits Everton must change their mentality in ‘big games’ if they are to start taking points off those above them.

The Toffees lost 1-0 at Tottenham on Monday night. Michael Keane’s 26th minute own goal was the decisive moment.

The loss means that Everton have won just one of their 12 games against ‘big six’ opposition this season. That being the 3-1 win over Chelsea in December.

Ancelotti told Sky Sports after the match that there must be a change in his side’s approach to those games.

“We have to change the mentality, this is absolutely normal,” he said.

“We want to do a step more, but you can not do that day-by-day.” Read more…
