Everton duo facing axe if Allardyce takes over at Goodison

David Unsworth and Joe Royle are reportedly facing the axe if Sam Allardyce takes over as Everton boss.

The duo, who have assumed caretaker roles following Ronald Koeman’s recent exit, could actually follow the Dutchman out of Goodison Park.

Allardyce is said to be lining up sacked Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare to be his assistant if he becomes manager of the Merseyside outfit.

That will also free up a role for director of football Steve Walsh, who is also likely to revert to the position he enjoyed in his former job at Leicester where he observed from the bench, according to the report in the Sunday Mirror.

The news is likely to upset Everton fans, along with former chairman Bill Kenwright, who hopes to keep the pair involved in the day to day running of the club.

Unsworth is said to have impressed the Toffees hierachy with his decision making in the comeback win over Watford, although that is not thought to be enough to earn him the job long term.
