Memphis Depay & Wayne Rooney: Linked with Everton

Everton will attempt to lure Wayne Rooney and Memphis Depay to Goodison Park in January, according to reports.

Toffees boss Ronald Koeman has made it clear that he would be interested if the pair became available and is now thought to have the backing of his board.

The Sunday Express claims that the club is going to try to sign them in Janaury whether that is on a permanent deal or on loan.

Rooney hasn’t been starting as many matches of late but it is understood that United boss Jose Mourinho would be reluctant to let the forward leave before the end of the season.

Depay, meanwhile, has only played in 20 minutes of Premier League football this campaign after struggling to adapt following his move from PSV Eindhoven last summer.

And the report goes on by saying that a loan move would a possible option for the Dutchman in January.

On the possibility of bringing Rooney back to Everton, Koeman said recently: “I do not know how his situation is, and I need to respect that situation. That’s not my problem.

“But even when we get one time the possibility that Rooney is an option for Everton, I’m very pleased.”

While the Toffees boss also revealed he would be keen to sign Depay if he was available: “I would like to have him. He’s a young player with individual qualities and a threat. He’s efficient. I would like him in January.”
