Several Premier League clubs are now in the hunt for Torino defender Gleison Bremer, it has been claimed.
It was reported in December that Liverpool had joined rivals Everton in a battle for his signing. The Toffees’ interest dates back to last summer.
The Reds were said to have made contact with Bremer’s agent in the winter transfer window. They went on to sign defensive pair Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies instead though.
According to Toro News, Everton are still monitoring the Brazilian. They are not alone, with West Ham and Fulham keeping tabs too.
The 23-year-old has been a regular starter in Serie A this season. He has also scored four goals in his 19 appearances.
He made the move to Italy from his home country in 2018 and has been said to be open to a switch to England.
Torino’s hierarchy are reportedly conscious of the increasing interest in the centre back and subsequently want to sign him to a new contract.
His current deal at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino runs until the summer of 2023. The Italian side have started enquiries into tying him down long-term.
If they fail to do so, Bremer has plenty of potential suitors lining up. Fulham’s summer interest is likely dependent on their top-flight survival, whilst Liverpool might also rejoin the fight if they need further reinforcements at the back.
Mane defends under-fire teammate
Meanwhile, Reds forward Sadio Mane believes Roberto Firmino should get more plaudits than both himself and Mo Salah at Liverpool.
The exact opposite is true at Anfield. It’s Mane and Salah who take the praise with Brazilian Firmino usually well down the pecking order.
That has been the case even more so this season with Firmino’s output under scrutiny. The 29-year-old has scored six goals and grabbed five assists in 25 Premier League games. Jamie Carragher said in January he was worried about Firmino’s future at Liverpool.
Mane though, who only has one more Premier League goal than Firmino this season, is a big fan of his team-mate.
