Sporting are reportedly looking to get €25m out of Everton for midfielder Matheus Nunes, with talks set to commence in the coming days.
Nunes has been pursued by the Toffees and fellow Premier League side Newcastle United. The Magpies had an attempt to sign the 22-year-old fail in January. Last month they were reported to be reigniting their interest. It is those in charge at Goodison Park who are currently pushing to secure a deal, though.
They believe this can be achieved via bonuses. However, they have told A Bola that they will be willing to take a deal worth €20m if their desired fee cannot be met.
The negotiations are being led by super agent Jorge Mendes. Everton’s opening gambit is believed to be for €18m.
The report states that Sporting need to sell before they can buy this summer, as is the same with every club in Portugal.
With Nunes featuring predominantly from the bench last season, it makes sense for them to cash in on the youngster.
Indee, 19 of the Brazilian’s 31 appearances for Sporting in the Primeira Liga were as a substitute. He netted three goals and assisted two others from central midfield.
Other clubs are reported to be following him too. However, there have been no ‘concrete proposals’ from any parties.
Nuno to come baring gifts
Everton are also currently in talks with Nuno Espirito Santo as they seek Carlo Ancelotti’s replacement. Nuno is one of Mendes’ many clients.
Whilst in charge at Wolves, this connection saw an influx of Portuguese talent make the move to England.
A number of Portugal’s Euro 2020 squad are either on or have been on the books at the Molineux.
If the Toffees do appoint Nuno, they will likely be the next benefactors of his strong relationship with Mendes.
And according to one report, their first reward could be the perfect partner in crime for Dominic Calvert-Lewin…
