Ex-Man City defender arrives in London ahead of Arsenal transfer

Omar Rekik

Arsenal are on the brink of securing the signing of a talented centre-back that was previously on the books of Manchester City, according to a report.

The Gunners had already agreed a £900,000 deal for Hertha Berlin’s Omar Rekik as part of Matteo Guendouzi’s loan move to Germany.

However, time ran out for Arsenal to rubber-stamp the deal on deadline day.

Rekik, 18, recently posted an image of him on a plane touching down in London on his Instagram story, the Metro says.

The source adds while it seems the completion of the deal may be on its way, Arsenal fans should remain grounded.

It claims that the youngster is deemed a future prospect and is set to be loaned out straight away.

Rekik is yet to make a senior appearance for his current club, despite training with the first team.

The Metro states that this is likely to be because of his pending move to Arsenal, given that he was called into the Berlin match day squad several times towards the end of the 2019/20 campaign.

Mikel Arteta will assess what quality and fitness level Rekik is currently at before making a definitive decision.

The defender has already been on the books of several respectable European outfits.

After spending time at Manchester City’s youth set-up, he enjoyed stints at Feyenoord, PSV and Marseille before joining Hertha Berlin.

Willian to make hasty Arsenal exit?

Willian

He has featured in 15 Gunners games since his move and is still yet to score.

Recent reports state that Spanish club Real Betis and league rivals Everton are interested in the ex-Chelsea man’s services.

Arsenal could let him leave for around €15million.
