EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal beat Man Utd, Liverpool to young Sunderland ace

Date published: Thursday 5th July 2018 1:18

Arsenal have won the race to land Sunderland starlet Sam Greenwood, TEAMtalk has exclusively learned.

The 16-year-old has agreed to join The Gunners, after rejecting the chance to sign a contract at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland will be due training compensation, but they are gutted to lose one of their top prospects for a drop in the ocean of his potential worth.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool all showed an interest – but TEAMtalk understands that Greenwood’s deal with Arsenal is now in place.

Four players have already arrived at the Emirates Stadium this summer as Unai Emery looks to revamp his squad ahead of the new season.

Stephan Lichsteiner arrived on a free after his deal at Juventus expired, while goalkeeper Bernd Leno and defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos joined from the Bundesliga for undisclosed fees.

Young Estonian stopper Karl Jakob Hein also signed from Nõmme United on a free transfer.
