TEAMtalk can reveal Bradford, Blackburn, Wigan and Northampton are among a dozen clubs tracking Exeter City winger David Wheeler.
The 26-year-old was one of the Grecians’ top performers last season in League Two as they failed to land promotion with defeat in the play-off final to Blackpool at Wembley.
Wheeler scored 13 goals and added eight assists in his 38 appearances for Exeter last term and his form has alerted plenty of interest from clubs in League One.
Wheeler, who scored in the 2-1 Wembley defeat, has 12-months left on his current deal and Exeter have so far rebuffed all advances and have slapped a “not for sale” tag on him.
But after four productive years, it remains to be seen if the club can keep a player known to be keen to test himself at a higher level.
Bradford are on the lookout for wideman after losing Mark Marshall to Charlton.
Stuart McCall is believed to close to be taking Newcastle winger Alex Gilliead back to Valley Parade on a season-long loan and it is unclear whether he has targeted Wheeler as an alternative to Gilliead or as well as the 21-year-old.
