EXCLUSIVE: Crystal Palace at head of queue to sign talented Championship winger

Antoine Semenyo TEAMtalk

Crystal Palace are leading the chase for exciting Bristol City winger Antoine Semenyo, TEAMtalk can reveal.

Semenyo is seen a player with huge potential and Eagles sporting director Dougie Freedman is believed to be a huge fan of the 21-year-old. He has come through the youth system at Ashton Gate and has enjoyed loan stints at the likes of Newport and Sunderland before becoming a regular this season.

He was a target for Chelsea in 2019 and they almost finalised a deal for him to join. However, they could not agree terms.

Chelsea had an initial offer worth £1m rejected, with City holding out for £2m, but a deal never materialised.

Now Semenyo is again on the radar of a number of Premier League sides. Newcastle, Brighton, Southampton, West Ham, Sheffield United, Norwich and Watford have all been checking regularly on his progress.

However, it is believed that Palace see him as a perfect fit to their squad. And they think he could make the step in similar fashion to Yannick Bolasie. A winger he has been likened to and he could very well follow in his footsteps.

Palace signed Bolasie from Bristol City in 2012 and went on to become a Premier League star, who the club ended up selling for £25m.

Despite being 11 points clear of the relegation zone after their victory over West Brom, Roy Hodgson is warning his players against complacency in their final nine matches of the season.

Man Utd scouted Semenyo

The London-born attacker, who has two goals and fives assists from 37 Championship games, is under contract until 2023.

Semenyo was on Manchester United’s radar a few years ago.

Player pathways manager Brian Tinnion admitted in December 2018 United had firm interest in the youngster.

“I was sat with a Man United scout at Newport the other week and they really like him. People will like him because he’s 18 years of age,” Tinnion told the Bristol Post.

“We’ve got a lot of talent, there’s eight out on loan in the League at the minute and then probably 12 below the league.”
