Leeds have told Dan James’ people to wait and see the result of the play-offs, as if they get promoted they will match any offer for the player and guarantee him first-team football.
Manchester United are hoping to seal a deal for James, but he would be unlikely be pushing for an immediate start – and Leeds hope the prospect of first-team Premier League football with them could yet sway him.
But Man United will pressure him for a quick decision, making it hard for him to wait for Leeds as the play-off final is not until late May.
Tottenham, Everton and Bournemouth have also made enquiries – but United are firmly in pole position.
We have been told that Leeds would contemplate asking United if they could loan him next season.
“I don’t know how many names have been mentioned since I’ve come in,” Solskjaer said, when asked about interest in James.
“There are players I’ve barely seen that I’ve read we are going to sign. There’s loads of speculation.
“I can’t comment on every single individual.
“Many players, as I’ve said. I don’t like when other managers talk about my players and I wouldn’t talk about others, even if I wasn’t or if I was interested.”
