Exclusive: Newcastle and Man City plot stunning £150m moves for world’s best player, as likeliest outcome is revealed

Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah

Newcastle and Man City are showing “real interest” in signing a winger his club believe is the best player in the world, and TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal what the likeliest deal will be.

After a series of near misses, only a collapse of epic proportions can prevent Napoli from becoming Serie A champions this season.

The Naples club haven’t been crowned kings of Italy since the Diego Maradona days back in 1990. With just 13 games of the current season remaining, Napoli hold a healthy 15-point lead over nearest challenger Inter Milan.

Their incredible form came as a shock to many after several seasoned stars were moved on last summer. Indeed, club stalwarts such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Fabian Ruiz, Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne all departed.

However, those already in place such as Victor Osimhen have taken their games to new heights. What’s more, many of their summer recruits have proven instant hits and none moreso than Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Georgian ace, 22, has taken Italy by storm after racking up 21 goal contributions in his first 21 Serie A matches.

Predictably, he’s quickly become the centre of attention for many a transfer rumour, and speaking exclusively to TEAMtalk, insider Graeme Bailey has lifted the lid on the chances of a move to England.

Bailey told us there is “real interest” from the Premier League’s big hitters, especially from Man City and Newcastle.

However, Napoli have cultivated a well-earned reputation for being tough negotiators and their £150m price tag will deter many.

Newcastle and Man City have the financial power to pull off a move of that size for the player Napoli believe is the best footballer in the world right now.

However, per Bailey, the likeliest outcome is Kvaratskhelia signing a new and improved contract with Napoli over the summer and remaining in Italy for at least one more season.

Bailey told TEAMtalk: “Napoli firmly believe that in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia they currently possess the best player in world football and it is no surprise that the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona are looking at him.

“However, there is some real interest in the Premier League and the two who’ve shown the greatest interest at this point are Manchester City and Newcastle United.

“Both have been keeping firm tabs on the Georgian and they like him a lot. However, Napoli would be looking at an enormous £150m price tag for Kvaratskhelia at this point.

“Both could conceivably afford to pay that colossal sum as two of the wealthiest clubs in the world, but a deal this summer looks highly unlikely.

“Instead, Napoli firmly believe a new and improved contract extension is likely.”
