EXCLUSIVE: Rangers plotting statement summer signing with Celtic display a taste of things to come

Rangers midfielder Aaron Ramsey

Rangers could forge a permanent deal for Aaron Ramsey in the summer and Juventus’ stance lends itself well to a statement summer coup, TEAMtalk understands.

Rangers raised eyebrows in January when bringing Wales international Ramsey on board. The 31-year-old had been pushed out into the cold at Juventus, sparking widespread interest in bringing him back to the UK.

Newcastle were the club most frequently linked with acquiring him from the Premier League.

However, it was reigning SPL champions Rangers that caught the eye when securing a loan deal.

Since moving to Ibrox, Aaron Ramsey has shone in limited action, though niggling injuries have prevented him from having the type of impact Giovanni van Bronckhorst would’ve liked.

Nevertheless, Ramsey did start in the Old Firm derby on Sunday and scored inside three minutes.

Celtic would ultimately go on to win the clash and move six points clear at the summit.

However, Ramsey’s performance was a wholly encouraging one and we understand Rangers have not ruled out making the move permanent in the summer.

Juventus make Ramsey deal easier than expected

Ramsey has 15 months left on his current deal in Turin, something that would normally put a deal beyond Rangers’ capability given a transfer fee would be involved.

However, Juventus have already indicated to suitors that they would allow Ramsey to leave on a free transfer.

The absence of a fee could therefore make a Rangers swoop viable. They would still need to pay a sign-on fee and fork out a hefty figure for the Welshman’s salary.

Nonetheless, a free transfer would remove one significant obstacle and bringing Ramsey on board on a permanent deal would be a real statement of intent from the Gers.
