Aston Villa have told Ross McCormack to try and find a loan move this month, and we can reveal that former club Rangers are keen.
Villa have confirmed they will cover almost all of his £40,000-a-week wages, and a number of clubs are now interested in landing the 31-year-old – who has never seen eye to eye with manager Steve Bruce.
Villa had tried to negotiate a pay-off with McCormack, but they still owe his former club Fulham money on the previous deal, so cancelling his contract has proved problematic.
Now McCormack is looking at his options, with clubs in Turkey also keen, but he would rather stay in Britain and Rangers – where he started his career – are a real option, along with Sunderland.
McCormack was most recently on loan at Melbourne City, but has also had prolific spells at Leeds and Fulham. He scored twice in 11 league appearances for Rangers from 2004-06 before heading to Motherwell.
