Sources: Tottenham make enquiry over exciting Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, in move that will delight Gary Lineker
Tottenham Hotspur have made an enquiry to see if Brighton and Hove Albion are willing to sell striker Evan Ferguson following the departure of Harry Kane, TEAMtalk understands.
Bayern finalised a deal to sign Kane from Tottenham on Friday and the transfer became official on Saturday. Kane has penned a four-year contract in Munich, with Bayern smashing their transfer record by spending an initial €100million (£86.3m) on him. The deal could rise to €120m (£103.6m) depending on bonus clauses.
While Tottenham did not want to sell Kane, his exit has forced them to look at potential options to improve Ange Postecoglou’s forward line. And they were already looking at possible signings before Kane’s switch to Germany was announced.
The likes of Elye Wahi, Gift Orban and Jonathan David have been linked in recent days. But now, TEAMtalk has been told Tottenham intermediaries have made contact over Ferguson’s availability.
However, it will be a tough deal for Spurs to pull off. It is understood that Brighton have little appetite for even acknowledging interest in the Republic of Ireland star, who was linked with a move away from the Amex in January before going on to pen a new long-term contract in April.
Spurs, nevertheless, are doing their ‘due dilligence’ on options as they have two weeks to bring in any attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes at the end of August.
Spurs’ enquiry comes after Ferguson’s goal against Luton Town on Saturday. The 18-year-old slid the ball home at the back post after being found by Pervis Estupinan.
Ferguson getting up and running for the campaign prompted Match of the Day host Gary Lineker to tweet: ‘Evan Ferguson scores in Fergie time. He’s a born goalscorer.
‘If I was in charge of recruitment at @SpursOfficial I’d take a punt on him as Kane’s replacement. Apologies to @OfficialBHAFC fans.’
