EXCLUSIVE: WBA snub prompts Rangers to hand skipper new deal

Rangers are set to reward captain James Tavernier with a new contract, TEAMtalk can exclusively reveal.

The defender, one of the Gers’ prized assets, was the subject of a £4million offer from West Brom on transfer deadline day last week; an offer for which Rangers rejected.

The Baggies attempted to lure Tavernier back to England, but saw a bid of their bid rejected, before being told it would take a £7million approach before they would be tempted to sell.

But a second Baggies approach never materialised and Tavernier, who has been made skipper under boss Steven Gerrard, has now told Rangers that he wants to be rewarded for his form and commitment.

We can reveal the player did not push for a switch to The Hawthorns, while the club are set to respond with new terms for the player.

Swansea, Everton and Burnley were all believed to be chasing the Bradford-born player in May – but it now seems his long-term future is set to be nailed down to Ibrox.
