The FA Cup fifth round draw has been made

The FA Cup semi-final draw has been made, with Manchester City coming up against Championship club Sheffield United and Manchester United or Fulham being drawn against Brighton.

City thrashed Vincent Kompany’s Burnley 6-0 on Saturday, with Erling Haaland bagging yet another hat-trick and reaching 42 goals for the campaign. The Citizens have won the competition six times in their history, most recently in 2018-19.

Pep Guardiola’s side will play Sheffield United. The Blades beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 in an FA Cup classic earlier on Sunday, with a late Tommy Doyle strike sending them to Wembley.

Doyle and James McAtee, who both started for Sheff Utd against Blackburn, are on loan at Bramall Lane from City. This means Sheff Utd boss Paul Heckingbottom may have to do without them for the semi-final clash.

Brighton have made the other semi-final, where they will come up against the winners of Man Utd vs Fulham.

Brighton continued their excellent season by beating League Two Grimsby Town 5-0. Young striker Evan Ferguson notched a brace, with Deniz Undav, Solly March and Kaoru Mitoma joining him on the scoresheet.

Brighton to play Man Utd or Fulham after Grimsby rout

The Seagulls, who sit seventh in the Premier League table, will be watching to see who wins between Man Utd and Fulham.

Should Man Utd advance to the next round, then they will have the chance to make their first FA Cup final since 2017-18.

Meanwhile, a Serie A manager ‘has faith’ one of his players will reject Man Utd and Newcastle in order to stay in Italy.
