Arsenal have made an opening proposal to recruit forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea in a surprise move this summer, according to reports.
Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano claims that positive talks have taken place and that the Germany international is keen on swapping Stamford Bridge for The Emirates.
Real Madrid were known to be keen on bringing Havertz to Spain, but Romano claims that a proposed deal is now off – leaving the door open for the Gunners to strike.
Bayern Munich, who are coached by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, are also known admirers of the 24-year-old, who has two years left on his contract in west London.
It’s claimed that the Blues are at odds over what to do with Havertz, given that his contract will soon be discussed for renewal although the two years he has left means they could also recoup a decent transfer fee for him.
There is some optimism that new boss Mauricio Pochettino could turn his fortunes round, with Havertz having scored just nine goals in 47 games in all competitions for Chelsea last term.
Indeed, since his arrival three years ago in a deal worth £90million, Havertz has notched 32 goals and provided 15 assists in 139 games.
Havertz tipped to move on – for the right price
The attacking midfielder has also largely operated as a central striker, due to Chelsea’s lack of true No.9 options.
And, having failed to fully convince in the position, it appears that both parties are willing to move on – if the right price is met.
It’s claimed that Chelsea are willing to accept an offer of around £75m for the player. However, that is significantly more than the Gunners are willing to pay at this stage, so there is still much negotiating to do.
