A cryptic message on the Facebook page of Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez has appeared hinting at his retirement from football.
A statement appeared late on Tuesday on the Algeria international’s official Facebook page suggesting that he has decided to retire based on a ‘consultation with doctors’.
Mahrez’s last post was late in February, in which he stated: “Ready to play #LCFC #premierleague #kingpowerstadium.”
The statement on Tuesday read: “After the last consultation with many doctors, I’ve decided to stay away from football. As my time as a football player comes to an end, I would like to say few words.
“I want to thank everybody for the kindness and support they have shown me in this incredible city , you will be always in my heart.”
However, reports suggest that Mahrez was spotted training with his Foxes’ team-mates on Tuesday, hinting that the post could be a hack.
The 27-year-old caused a stir earlier in the year as a deadline day move to Manchester City fell through, and Mahrez stayed off training for 10 days, reportedly in protest.
