Fair price stuck on Ben White as new suitor joins Man Utd, Liverpool in hunt

Brighton have set their asking price for Ben White, amid fears his elevation to England’s Euro 2020 squad will increase interest in his services.

White has underlined his incredible ability by claiming a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the summer. Despite only making his senior debut last week, he impressed on his first full start. Now the Brighton star – also named his club’s Player of the Year – comes into England’s 26-man squad. That’s at the expense of the unlucky Liverpool man Trent Alexander-Arnold.

A number of top clubs have been watching White for some time. For example, Manchester United have been linked as they look for the perfect partner to Harry Maguire.

According to reports, Man Utd remain interested, as do Arsenal and Liverpool, who have also kept a watching brief.

There is also interest from further afield too, with Borussia Dortmund said to be keen. Jose Mourinho’s Roma and Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG are also reportedly keeping tabs on the player too.

It all promises to be an interesting summer for the former Leeds United loanee. And while Brighton are in no mood to sell, it’s reported they have named their price for the player were any of his suitors come calling.

As per the Daily Mail, Brighton are ‘looking to fend off interest in White by placing a £50m fee on his head’.

And while the report claims Brighton are keen to keep White next season, realistically they know they could face a tough task.

It is understood ‘an offer of £50million could be too good for Brighton to turn down’. That’s despite White having three years to run on his contract.

June 7 Transfer Chatter - Laporte to Barcelona, Wijnaldum deal cools and Aston Villa keen on Ward-Prowse

Barcelona want Aymeric Laporte but are refusing to offer Gini Wijnaldum an improved offer, while Aston Villa are set to make a move for James Ward-Prowse.

Brighton chief executive Paul Barber recently admitted that the Seagulls would have to consider selling some of their best players if the “right offer” came along.

He said: “We know some of our best players aren’t going to be with us for ever and, if the right offer comes along and they want to leave, then they can go.”

Leeds fans hijack Ben White vote

White, meanwhile, as revealed earlier has been named the Brighton Player of the Season.

A public vote, he was up against more fancied names in Yves Bissouma, Joe Veltman, Lewis Dunk and Robert Sanchez.

And while White has impressed, he was not expected to win the vote. However, win it he did, and afterwards, Leeds fans revealed the part they had played in voting for White.

The defender was a hugely popular figure during Leeds promotion season. And United also saw three bids turned down by Brighton last summer as they tried to make the move permanent.

However, despite their failure to sign him, White remains a popular presence among the Leeds faithful. And that was illustrated by White taking the bulk of the vote and taking home the honour.
