IS THIS THE GREATEST LIVERPOOL TEAM EVER?
I’m not saying the team isn’t good. But to say it’s the best LFC team of all time?
That’s hype. In fact, that’s over-hype.
I think they’re (the media) just building us up so that we can fall from a great height when the time comes…as long as we’ve won the title by then, I don’t really care. But I can see what’s going on…even if you can’t :)…Peace

Course it is.
It’s all hype!
We havnt really won the CL, Super Cup, World Club Cup, prob gonna win the Prem at the earliest possible time ever with a record points haul, weve taken something like 100 points from the last 102 on offer, havnt been beaten at Anfield in the league since 2017.
This team isn’t really deserving of the praise and by association it’s captain.
It’s all just hype.
They don’t really deserve it, and the captain neither.
You’re as see through as glass.
gingerlfc
Ginger….don’t believe the hype!
This team is good. Very good.
But better than the teams of the late 70s and early to mid 80s that dominated domestically and in europe? No.
Do they play the beautiful game like the team of 1987-90? No.
Of course, it’s not our fault that the rest of the league is a mess (maybe apart from Leicester who have improved). We can only play/beat what’s in front of us – and we are, every week
But it would be foolish to not recognise that the general levels aren’t what they usually are. You got Sheff Utd in 6th after 25 games above Utd and Arsenal. That’s unusual.
I’m not complaining about it (I’m happy for a repeat next season too) but you need to be able to acknowledge when things aren’t normal…Peace

The current team would easily demolish the team of the 70s / 80s.
To me, that’s the metric we ought to go by when judging who is better. Which would win in a contest.
No disrespect to the old boys, they dominated the domestic game for years and conquered Europe several times. Their achievements far outweigh this current teams achievements.
But… The game has moved on, there’s far more money, more people all over the world getting involved in the game, more knowledge and better science, which has taken standards higher.
The current Liverpool team is the best I’ve ever seen in English football. Two exemplary seasons back to back, after several years of building. They’ve earned it, and I’m sure this won’t be the only title they win provided they keep the staff and team together.
22 points clear, so even if City were on fire like last season they’d still be behind. If you are suggesting this team is where it is because others have been bad, and will fall from a great height because of the media hype, next season, then I don’t think you understand football.

PEREIRA PART OF MAN UTD’S PROBLEM
Blacky & Roy – I suppose my problem is that my eyes are bleeding watching Andreas fucking Pereira running around trying to look like a football player each week. I’d much prefer to watch Pogba, he’s 10 times the player and (whilst he hasn’t done nearly often enough) on his day he’s our best player. No question.

happy, that’s not the first time you justify something bad by pointing out something worse. 2 wrongs don’t make a right and Pereira and Pogba are both wrong for us in their own seperate way.

Pereira is utter rubbish,Matic & Mata are dead, and Pogba doesnt want to be here[doesnt give a fuck].

This is what is so frustrating, we’ve got Pereira who the world knows isn’t good enough. He’s spent two years on loan in Spain where he wasn’t good enough so he was never going to be good enough. Then we have Gomes and Chong, who may not be good enough but unless they get an extended run in the side, we’ll never know for sure. We’re all fairly sure they’re not good enough but we’d rather see them fail in trying than watch Pereira just failing.

The more i think of it the move to drop Matic (after him doing so well in Ole’s first 3 months) for Pereira this season has been one of our biggest disasters. Whilst not as mobile Matic has more understanding of the game in his left bollock than Pereria will ever have. It just didn’t work and as a result (rather than just saying Pereira isn’t good enough) he’s moved him all over the team. Right wing, No. 10 – fucking hell he’s not good enough anywhere!
The real fear is that players like Pereira become an accepted standard in the team. Then we really will do a Liverpool!

ASSESSING ARTETA’S ARSENAL INFLUENCE
Lots of debate on the vs Burnley thread especially around the “Arteta effect” and some even questioning if he is the right fit for the job. Personally I can see an improvement in our performances but the result are not where they should be. It’s easy to forget that he’s had to play 10 games in 5 weeks which surely is not the best preparation for laying down his ideas (which is why the board should have got rid of Emery before the November International break IMO.
So, we seem to be much more compact and feel more like a team when we play rather than 11 individuals hopelessly running around. But, we are still too slow transitioning the play. We play better with the kids. Our right side seems to be a bit of an issue. I’d prefer to see Willock rather than Ozil in Number 10. Lacazette probably needs to be dropped.
I’m hoping for a step up from our front 4 after the break. Number 1 priority has to be getting these guys firing. Auba has to play up front where he belongs. If that means dropping Lacazette then so be it. I don’t think buying both of them was part of the plan so aside from their price tags why would you play them together?
This will be the first quality time Arteta has had with the squad. Lets see what happens.

MAN UTD’S MENTALITY PROBLEM
But that’s the thing it’s a different era, you can’t just use the same approach that worked 10 or 20 years ago, I don’t think there’s any manager better suited for using the stick than Mourinho and he himself has realised that’s not working and has to change if he still wants to stay at the top, Klopp’s side barely have anyone in the mould of G.Neville or Roy Keane but there are still fighting for each other and destroying teams. I mean just look at their best players, VVd, Fabinho, Salah, Mane, Trent none of them have that type of mentality and it’s still working for them ok maybe Henderson has it but that’s all he has, remove that and he’s just an average midfielder. The likes of Roy Keane wouldn’t survive a season in this era, where actions and words are monitored by the second, anything a player says or does is exaggerated so the club has to go for the soft approach

I agree about trying to find the middle ground here, since we have 2 “camps” of players, both of which are destroying the club from inside. On one side you have the likes of DDG,Mata, and Ole[as a manager],and the likes of Pogba,Shaw,Martial, players who dont give a fuck about anything or anyone else.We need a clearout from top to bottom,a manager who instills pride, discipline, hard work, zeal, determination, will to win,and makes sure the players do the same.

What works for Liverpool is that they have a couple of players in there who, although not the most skilful, are well respected by the better players simply because they’re willing to run through a brick wall to be successful: the players I’m talking about are Milner and Henderson.
Can you imagine Young (while he was here), Mata or Matic doing that sort of fighting on the pitch that the Liverpool players do? Do any of our “older players” inspire the young ones to make an effort? Think it’s quite the opposite – they see average Joe’s like Lingard getting regular play time for doing absolutely nothing and follow suit.
We need an older player or two who can come in, do the business and inspire the young ones. If Pogba bothered he could be that player, Rashford will be that player if he continues going how he is but other than those two, there isn’t much.

CHELSEA LINE-UP AGAINST MAN UTD?
After our previous defeats to United this season (League and Cup) and the reasons why, hopefully Frank gets it right with both selection and tactics. Surely we are good enough to beat them, many other clubs inferior to us have made United look listless and shoddy during the season and have taken plenty of points off of them. I expect us to do the same. No excuses for them now. A vital win.
Chelsea1967
Very unlikely Pulisic will start against United he’s been out for several weeks now after suffering an abductor injury and has had little to no training and no competitive games in over a month.
Probably the best we can hope for v United is Pulisic to be on the bench but even that may be optimistic.
