Intriguing Firmino change must happen to fit Werner in; Fred’s role debated

Liverpool fans debate the impact Timo Werner’s potential arrival could have on Roberto Firmino, while Manchester United fans discuss Fred’s role in the team – all in Your Says of the Day.

HOW WOULD WERNER FIT IN AT LIVERPOOL?

I reckon Bobby will drop down into midfield next season, half the time he is dropping down there anyways so why not make the move permanent, especially if we indeed do get Werner. Who got the pace and workrate to be our frontman…

If we brought in Werner we could easily utilise the 4-2-3-1 formation much more particularly at home against those teams we completely dominate.
So we could easily line up up front with Salah, Firmino, Mane behind Werner.

Keep in mind next season also that Mane and Salah will be away to Afcon for several weeks at the start of 2021 plus there’s the possibility of Salah missing the start of the season due to the Olympics. So this provides plenty of opportunity for Werner to get games without having to offload any of our current front 3.

It’s also interesting that we could probably offset the cost of Werner with the sales of Origi and Shaq. That still frees up more money for investment.
That would mean Werner and Minamino in with Shaq and Origi out for very little outlay. A significant upgrade in the squad.

With the rumours going around that we are looking to bring in 2 forwards and with Wijnaldum’s contract situation yet to be resolved, it might well be the case that Firmino may drop into the midfield 3.

Razor

I don’t see Wijnaldum going anywhere.

SHOULD MAN UTD MOVE FOR AUBAMEYANG?

Hooked – We would definitely, but it would take a year or so like it did for RVP to disintegrate. Imagine the impact of Aubamayang and Fernandes together next season with a proper midfield destroyer in there as well.
Game changer.

Auba isn’t the answer. I’ll be very disappointed if we sign him. The potential transfer fee and wages make it a crazy transfer. If we have to sign an older striker I’d rather we went for someone like Cavani, who at least would be free.

I think our targets for the summer are Grealish, Sancho and a striker. This assumes that Grealish has the reported £45m release clause, Sancho for £100m or so and a cheap back up striker with whatever cash, buttons, lint and sweet wrappers we can find in down the back of the club sofa.

CHELSEA OVERHAUL IN THE SUMMER?

Papers today carrying suggestions of a major overhaul of the squad by Frank in the Summer it seems dramatic but I’m not sure it’s the wrong thing to do.

I think this is about right, you would need to factor in Giroud, Batshuayi and Cabellero leaving too. I would be inclined to keep Jorginho personally, he can play. I doubt the club will have quite such a high turnover in reality and who would pay big money for Kepa at the moment.

We would need to bring in some experienced leaders if we lost this many experienced players and bring in more of our youth (Gilmore, Ampadu, Gallagher).

Busy summer for Marina?

alanp

Sounds about right to me too Alan according to reports Frank wants another 4 signings to go with Zilyich and the balance is likely to come from young player promotions to the squad. Re Jorginho I agree but I think he wants to go back to Italy.

COULD THE CORONAVIRUS HALT LIVERPOOL’S TITLE CHARGE?

Is the coronaviruis going to play a part in delaying the pl and us winning it?

Sean the sailor

Sean.. I don’t know what the situation is in the UK but as I doubt that PL games would be rescheduled unless a staff member from a specific club got infected. I can only imagine that games would be played behind closed doors if it really came down to it. Where I’m from, we have had places of mass congregation closing their doors, like churches and stuff but otherwise there hasn’t been anything in the way of mass quarantines or school closures.

Razor

They have already cancelled four games in Italy, if the virus picks up in the UK expect the same over there… I expect to see more and more games around Europe played behind closed doors, this could take over month or so to unfold.

FRED’S MAN UTD ROLE DEBATED

A bit harsh on Fred. He’s been quality for us for longer than a month, its been consistent since about November.
He had a shocker against Watford but after all the graft and decent games he has had for onths now he’s allowed one.

You could see how much work he puts in when he didn’t start against Bruges last week and we were wide open through the middle.
Freekicks and shooting aside I think he has been our best player this season

simonas2702

It was less a criticism and more a fact, FRED is categorically not a defensive midfielder.
We have 2 – Matic who is slow and past it and McTominay who is improving but a cut below top drawer.

We have no other defensive midfielder.
Fred being pick pocketed at such regularity v Watford was just an example of why he doesn’t fit the DMF mould.

PUTTING CHELSEA’S PROGRESS IN PERSPECTIVE

It is a massive jump up from Championship to Premiership and even bigger to include European Football, and I think Frank needs to look for someone with the appropriate experience to join himself and Jody on the coaching staff.

We have too many players out for too long with muscle injuries, and we concede too often late on in games. To me that indicates a team that is lacking fitness levels both mentally and physically. The fitness staff came with Frank from the Championship and to me they are still operating to that standard. That needs to change.

We have two world cup winners in our squad, one who up until the weekend could not even get on the bench, and another who was being hailed as one of, if not the best defensive midfielders in the world, during which time he won two league titles as well as the WC. Yet Frank insists in playing him out of position, and ironically the stats show we perform better when he is not playing as opposed to when he is playing ….. out of position!!!

These are the reasons I ask how brutally honest will Frank be when assessing himself.

If he is and starts to make some very difficult and some not so difficult decisions I think we are only one more season away from being real contenders again.

NIBlue

CHM-I agree about not being world class, but they would have improved this current Chelsea side.Except Liverpool, they would improve every team in the EPL,imho.Alaba is a world class playing as a left-back,but not a central defender or a winger. And I would take Lewa ahead of every single striker in the world right now, even ahead of Aguero or fully fit Kane.

redblood

Just watched City outclass Real on their home ground, I can’t think of any Bayern Munich player making the City team on a regular basis not even Lewandowski, Chelsea’s current squad is basically a strong mid table team for now even though we still 4th so you can’t really compare.
